Ramiya "RamBam" is an emerging filmmaker. She trained in improvisation and acting from age 11, studying with the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, and later in Toronto at Bad Dog Theatre Company and with Stella Adler method coach Alan C. Peterson. She earned a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Waterloo (2010) and is a graduate of Vancouver Film School’s Film Production program (2012). She worked in a range of production assistant and assistant directing roles on indie films and music videos to Hollywood productions (Arrow, Age of Adaline), before going on to hone her camera and editing skills as a videographer, including filming annual dance performances at the National School of Ballet. She gained mentorship in directing over five years as a part-time director’s assistant to Brian K. Roberts, a television and film director whose credits include writing for The Simpsons. Over the past 12 years in Toronto and Vancouver, Ramiya has been commissioned by local artists as a director, cinematographer, and editor, producing conceptual film work that has screened at the Festival of Recorded Movement, Reel Asian Film Festival, Fashion Art Toronto, and RAW Natural Born Artists. Committed to amplifying the voices of marginalized communities, she curated a short film festival for the Tamil Arts Collective in collaboration with Regent Park Film Festival in 2020 and 2025. Ramiya regularly attends movie screenings at Toronto’s independent cinemas and live shows around the city.

Midnight Murungai is the first narrative short she has written and directed, and serves as a proof-of-concept for the feature film Where Saturn Is.
